The beef tvp when taken directly from the can is very salty flavored, and makes a nice addition to salads, etc. Once it is rehydrated, you can use it inside of any dish you would use for ground beef, except it is much healthier - each serving has 4 grams of fiber. We have even used the recipes on the Shelf Reliant site, and made meatloaf and meatballs ... My husband is even eating the things I have made with it. (In case you don't know, TVP stands for Textured Vegetable Protein ... there is NO meat in TVP).
The corn - right out of the can - can be eaten in handfuls. It tastes like a sweet popcorn, and I enjoy it both rehydrated (where it tastes like fresh corn off the cob) and sneaking a handful now and then.
I use the potato dices instead of the chunks here, but both work the same. When they are rehydrated, they have the same consistency as cooked potatoes, and can be immediately added to any recipe in which you would use potatoes. (I use mine to make an omelet in the morning)
Speaking of omelets, the omelets I've been making are with the freeze dried eggs ... I add some of the potatoes, onions, broccoli, bell peppers ... and make a really fancy omelet using only the thrive items in my cupboard.
The strawberries are WAY too good ... and disappear way too fast.
This is an excellent product, however, as others have said, there may be other locations where you can save some money by buying it, so do look around! But I did want to post my opinion of the food itself (5 stars) ... rather than let the price dictate the star rating.
