(More customer reviews)I'd like to say I agree with or appreciate the previous two reviewers...but I can't. Expertise is not something to take for granted or to take lightly. So I don't.
I agree with the first reviewer's take on the chips not being too spicy. You're absolutely right. If you want a much more intense chip, then you have to go with Blair's Death Rain. Those are also very tasty, but they are different, and they pack much more of a kick. Not anything compared to some of the top of the line hot sauces, but certainly more than the vast majority of spicy chips on the market.
The problem with this review is that it was purely based on the heat. What about the flavor? The crunch? The quality? The freshness? They're heart healthy, you know :)
As for the second reviewer: tsk tsk. I certainly mean no offense, but the whole SE Asia thing and "knowing what you're talking about" is just as ludicrous as the assumption that all Californians say "Dude." If I saw anything with the word "Habanero" on it and expected "mildly spicy" chips, I'd be crazy. Start with spicy Doritos or chips with "Jalapeno" in the title. Habanero is the second spiciest pepper on the planet. The notion that a heartburn patient would seek out chips like that would indicate they are into self-torture. To each there own!
Me personally, I am more like the first reviewer. I am as pasty and white as anyone else, but I LOVE incredibly spicy food. Dave's coffin hot sauce hot. When my wife and I go to our favorite Indian restaurant where they know us by name, they refer to us at the crazy white people because we order the food hotter than any patron of Indian descent. And these chips...are not that hot. They have more kick than Doritos or Cheetos, but not much.
Blair's takes the heat to a whole new level. But these chips (IMHO) are about the taste and texture and quality. They taste good. Not too salty, not to bland. A nice kick, but not ridiculous for those with spice tolerance. I have gotten these since they were on the shelves at my local Fresh and Easy. Delicious. Certainly not for everyone, but nowhere does Corazonas say "Spiciest chip in the world" or "Mildest Habanero chip out there". They advertise a heart healthy snack with enjoyable characteristics. These tasty, super crunchy, and very fresh chips fill that role. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Again, no offense to either other reviewer, but so many other factors should be considered before giving these chips a 1 or 2 star review.
